As part of the GTI Energy program, Southwest Gas utilized Exodigo to help understand precise locations for multiple gas assets in a residential enclave in Tempe, AZ to evaluate any maintenance and safety needs. They engaged Exodigo to scan the area and deliver detailed maps of the buried asset locations.

Exodigo’s multi-sensing and AI-based technology identified a major gas line running throughout the project boundary, multiple gas and other utility laterals, and 82 service line segments of varying materials (including small plastic pipes, which are typically difficult to find with traditional locating methods). Exodigo succeeded to identify all gas lines that connected to the 11 homes/service addresses located within the scanning area.

To increase grid resilience across their properties in the U.S., National Grid needed to map all utilities along the ROW of a gas transmission line in the town of Garden City in Long Island, NY to replace the pipe. National Grid’s existing records were incomplete. National Grid engaged Exodigo to locate all utilities along the 4.5-acre site. Exodigo was asked to identify risk areas and provide the National Grid team with a map and pothole plan for the transmission line ROW.

Exodigo's scan identified all utilities, including several unmarked on records along the 4.5-acre ROW of the transmission line. Having complete knowledge of their buried assets enabled National Grid to proceed with replacing and upgrading their infrastructure as planned, without fear of unexpected strikes to disrupt the work.

While building a new overheadtransmission line near Buffalo, NewYork, National Grid wanted to ensurethat they would not face right of wayissues or encounter strikes with fiberoptic cables they didn’t own. Exodigowas brought in to scan the area andidentify where cables were located

Flags pointed to a fiber optic line in our scan area, but the Exodigo team confirmed with verification methods that it wasn’t there. Because they are connected to the stock exchange, the fiber lines would cost over $1M per minute of downtime if hit, so it was critical to avoid them. Our multi-sensing technology enabled the National Grid team to move forward with their design and installation confidently. It also allowed them to create a more complete digital twin of the area.

As part of efforts to increase grid resilience across their properties in the US, National Grid planned to expand a substation in New York State. Since the area had no available records, National Grid was concerned about unknown buried assets underneath the proposed site.They engaged Exodigo to locate all underground utilities to derisk their design plans.

Exodigo scanned the area with multiple sensors, camera images, and centimeter-precision RTK GPS to collect over 500 GB of data per acre. Exodigo's map identified all utilities, including many unmarked within the current substation and within the footprint of the planned expansion.“This technology looks to be a game changer for us... from project inception, planning, design and engineering, [and] construction. National Grid was installing new gas subsurface infrastructure in a dense urban area of Brooklyn (a heavily congested shopping center). They didn’t trust that the city's records were accurate and complete, and they needed a full view of the subsurface to design safely. National Grid engaged Exodigo to scan the area and map all underground utilities, as well as overlay our multi-sensing insights with known records, to allow them to identify any conflicts with design early.

SEPTA needed to identify the location of an existing underground water main at the future Conshohocken Station parking garage along its Manayunk/Norristown commuter rail line to coordinate the foundation supports for the parking garage. The water service utility maintenance team at Aqua, Inc. (the owner of the water main) recommended relocation of the main from under the parking garage footprint. To do so, the main needed to be accurately surveyed, and a new location designed for it that was not under the parking garage. SEPTA engaged Exodigo to locate the water main and provide a complete map of underground assets in the project area. Ground conditions had changed drastically since the line’s original installation in 1955 and Aqua did not have accurate as-built survey information to identify its location.The exact depth of the line was estimated to be 25-30 feet but was unknown because the previous property owner had filled the site with over 15 feet of soil and construction debris such as brick and asphalt, rendering conventional locating methods ineffective.

After failed attempts to positively identify the water main via a traditional utility locating approach, Aqua's team dug at the water main's last known location per their records. However, after 35 feet of excavation, the water main was not identified at this location.Simultaneously, SEPTA engaged Exodigo to attempt to locate the water main. Exodigo conducted a multi-sensor scan and detected the line ~30 feet east of Aqua's assumed location. Aqua excavated at the Exodigo-identified location and encountered the water main at a depth of 25 feet - precisely where Exodigo advised it would be.As a result, Aqua located both the north and south ends of the pipe. Without Exodigo's insights, the crew would have had to trench the entire site, which would have taken weeks. Instead, they only needed an excavator for four days, which enabled them to return more quickly to the primary work of completing the water main relocation. “Based on these results, and additional work that Exodigo has performed with other transit agencies, we believe there may be opportunities to expedite and ensure more accurate existing underground utility survey information for project delivery across multiple divisions at SEPTA by leveraging Exodigo's innovative technology and approach to subsurface utility location mapping.” Robert Tangi (Project Manager, SEPTA)

Caltrans experienced multiple highway utility strikes that caused several costly change orders, despite conducting numerous verifications through locators and potholes. They needed subsurface maps they could trust for redesigns to prevent further project delays and overruns.

Historically, mobile home parks in California were not mapped by utilities and tracked using only a single master meter, with park owners responsible for distributing electricity to all the lots on the property. However, due to safety concerns, the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) now requires PG&E to install individual meters in mobile home parks and manage the associated utility infrastructure. Because there are no existing records, PG&E relies on potholing, 811 calls, visual cues, and other traditional utility locating methods to determine the locations of lines. However, the current strategy is expensive, often inaccurate, and time-consuming.PG&E and their subcontracting construction company (NACC/Campos) engaged Exodigo to locate all utilities in a rural mobile home park in Northern California.

Exodigo's scan identified all 28 utilities provided by 811, plus 53 additional lines that were not in 811 records. Because mobile home parks have so few records associated with them, Exodigo’s solution offers critical information for these sites, preventing dangerous and costly strikes. With Exodigo’s map, PG&E and NACC were able to more safely and efficiently install the lines that the park needed and upgrade the homes to modern, individual metering.

PG&E needed to lay utility lines in a new residential development with no existing records. Charge, the EPC in charge of the job, hired a premium locator to mark the area, but brought in Exodigo to conduct a Quality Assurance layer.

Exodigo scanned the area and detected twice as many lines as the premium locator. Local construction laws required Charge to validate line locations by digging. The subsequent potholes verified all of Exodigo’s findings.After verifying the results, Charge redesigned the project based on Exodigo’s utility-free areas (“green corridors”), enabling them to avoid five utility strikes from missed lines and reduce the number of required potholes by 50 percent."Exodigo exceeded all our expectations. ​They found twice as many lines as what the premium locators we called had found. PLW Water, a subsidiary of the European energy and construction firm Ferrovial, is the main drinking water provider for the town of Plugerville, Texas.Like many areas of Texas, Pflugerville’s infrastructure demands have outpaced development, and the city is undergoing major investment to ensure increased drinking water for the growing city. The Pflugerville Water Treatment Plant expansion, slated to be operational by mid-2025, will nearly double the city’s gallons per day (MGD) processed to 30 million, bringing potable water to over 55,000 customers. To finalize design plans for the expansion site before construction, PLW asked Exodigo to map all underground utilities on the site, which had incomplete records. The goal was to create more complete records of the site and test Exodigo’s capabilities for water treatment use cases.

Exodigo's scan identified 40 utilities on PLW’s as-builts with greater precision than previously recorded. Exodigo identified that a line shown as straight on PLW’s map was in fact curved, preventing possible strikes or utility risks during the project. Exodigo also found an additional line that was not marked in the records. In addition to the lines located with scanning, Exodigo used PLW’s as-builts to confirm line locations. Exodigo’s technology specializes in conductive/metallic and large lines, but also incorporates client as-builts and satellite photography alongside scan data to reinforce insights, particularly for harder-to-detect shapes and materials.

At an airport in Southern California, annual passenger volume is projected to increase by 15 to 30 million by 2040. Local agencies are collaborating to construct a subsurface transit link between a metro station outside the airport and one of its terminals. Exodigo was contracted to provide a comprehensive underground map of the project across 5 sites and confirm that a planned station tunnel would not interfere with an existing water main. ​

Exodigo successfully located the water main, which is situated at a safe margin of between 9 and 17 feet above the planned tunnel's top. In addition to the main, completed scans revealed numerous utilities for which there were no existing records. Exodigo also discovered partially removed utilities and debris, as well as drainage and electricity lines that would need to be relocated. ​

Houston METRO’s University Corridor Bus Rapid Transit line will connect multiple residential, business, and education centers along a new, 25-mile corridor with more than 40 new stations, some of which are located in the city’s densest and most congested areas, increasing the risk of utility strikes if the underground is not mapped accurately. METRO engaged Exodigo to locate all utilities on a 0.56-acre future station site with the goals of 1) testing Exodigo's capabilities, and 2) gathering a more complete and accurate understanding of the subsurface prior to construction.

Exodigo provided Houston METRO with an improvement of the existing Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) quality level (QL), the precise location of 15 utilities not listed in existing records, corrected locations for lines listed inaccurately in records, and utility-free green zones for relocation and design.Additionally, Exodigo found 34 continuous/complete lines compared to only 19 represented in records. Seven of these utilities cross several main and other utilities, increasing the risk of strikes. Exodigo also identified 20 suspected lines that were not listed in records. Finally, Exodigo identified two communications lines that were 4-6 feet off in the records and found a sewer main that was 2-3 feet off in the records.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) engaged Granite Construction Company, a leading engineering, procurement, and construction firm (EPC), to expand Highway 288 in southeastern Texas. Granite needed to locate all utility lines on the site before the construction of a bridge and major highway expansion in the Texas wetlands.Swampy terrain and a high water table made traditional locating methods impossible and rendered GPR sensing alone ineffective. Stakes were high as utility strikes could have caused environmental damage through groundwater contamination.Granite engaged Exodigo to provide a complete map of underground assets with line properties and identities.

Exodigo correctly identified two ~30-foot-deep gas lines for Granite, including a crude oil pipe, which was approximately 4.5 feet from its recorded location. Based on the line’s location in the records, TxDOT had expected 10–15 feet of clearance from their drill point for a test bore they had conducted to assess soil conditions. It turns out that the line was missed by only 3-4 feet per Exodigo’s findings. Additionally, Exodigo detected an eastern utility line that was not identified by previous locators or listed on records. The line was running parallel to Granite’s proposed bridge foundation; locating it provided peace of mind that it was not in the construction pathway. “It is crucial that we know where underground lines are so that we can anticipate conflicts with the proposed designs ahead of time. In difficult wetlands conditions, Exodigo’s technology found lines that GPR and other traditional methods did not. Especially when dealing with oil and gas pipes, precise knowledge makes a big difference, since utility strikes are bad for the environment, bad for our crew, and bad for the bottom line.” Antonio Cendejas (Construction Technology Specialist, Granite Construction)Lastly, Exodigo located a fourth, suspected line not on records, which Granite then knew to investigate to manage the pathway of the creek.

Exodigo located 30 lines in the area while existing recordsidentified only 19 (a 57% increase) and 35 lines in anunmapped area. Exodigo also provided the locations of 16suspected lines which VINCI and GRDF could confirm withinvestigative methods.
